Public Hearing Zoning Commission Text Amendments May 20, 2025

The Zoning Commission of Miami Township will hold a Public Hearing on May 20, 2025 at 7 pm to review and act on two different text amendments in the Miami Township Zoning Resolution. These text amendments are amendments in formatting, not in substance. Text Amendment 2025-003 Text Amendment 2025-04

Public Hearing on Exclusion Zone for Large Scale Solar, May 21, 2025 at 7 pm.

The Miami Township Trustees will hear public input regarding the soon to expire Solar Exclusion Zone that exists south and east of the Little Miami River. The Greene County Commission was given the power by Senate Bill 52 to make zones within the county, in which industrial scale solar (greater than 50 MW) would be prohibited. The Greene County Commission thus far, has decided to let townships take the lead in identifying and asking for these zones. In June of 2023, Miami Township Board of Trustees requested that the Greene County Commission create a temporary exclusion zone for 2 years for the area south and east of the Little Miami River. It was approved and is now about to expire on July 27, 2025. This area encompasses the original footprint of the Kingwood Solar Project. The permit for Kingwood was rejected and is now being appealed in the Ohio State Supreme Court. In the event that the exclusion zone would be continued, it would not apply to the Kingwood project as their permit application predates SB 52 and they are “grandfathered in.”

The Miami Township Board of Trustees will now decide whether to let the exclusion zone expire or request from the Greene County Commission that it be extended or made permanent. Public input will be received at the this Hearing that will be held on May 21st at 7 pm in the Miami Township meeting room located at 101 E. Herman Street, Yellow Springs, Ohio.
